LIÈGE-BRUXELLES - Unique pair of shelves

Unique pair of shelves

On display: BRUXELLES

This pair of identical shelves (except the tags) are unique pieces made from 100% high quality steel parts.

The platforms are made from repurposed drawer separators from the 1960-80’s. Used for a national telecommunication center in Liège, Belgium.

Historically, Liège had one of the greatest metalworking industries in Europe. These parts were specially made locally for the company.

The handwritten metal tags remain untouched, giving hints on stories of the past.

The traffic line going from Liège to Brussels, each city’s name has been found on a tag.

The shelves hold the name of their respective city tag in french, Liège and Bruxelles.

4 levels of two sheets each are tightly pinched by M10 bolts.
Standing on 2 ski-like heavy steel feet, stabilized by its own weight.

These two pieces hold a powerful symbolic meaning to me as their intercity conversation mirrors my own path, leaving my hometown Liège for Brussels where I first studied industrial design at La Cambre.
